On the first Sunday of January, 1977 several families gathered in Medford, Oregon for the first worship service of what was to become Trinity Presbyterian Church. The congregation began as a mission outreach of the Northwest Presbytery of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, along with a separate group of families in Grants Pass. About four months later, in April of 1977 the Rev. Calvin Malcor and his family arrived in Medford to began his work as pastor of the two Southern Oregon congregations.
Pastor Malcor traveled between worship services of the Medford and Grants Pass congregations and it soon became evident that another man was needed for sustained growth of the two congregations. Mr. Jay Milojevich, at that time, was in the process of completing his seminary training at Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia. He accepted a call to be a pastoral intern, starting in August of 1978, working under pastor Malcor’s guidance. Pastor Malcor soon was working full time with the Medford Congregation while pastor Milojevich served the Grants Pass congregation. One session initially was composed of men from both congregations.
Eventually each congregation grew large enough to sustain itself and to have its own session. At that time, in 1983, the name Trinity was chosen by the congregation. After pastor Malcor accepted a call from a congregation in Illinois in 1985 Rev. Ted Gray became the next pastor of Trinity. He served from 1985 through March, 1990, when he accepted a call from a church in Florida.
The congregation experienced a considerable loss of members about the time of pastor Gray’s departure. Mr. Milojevich served as Presbytery advisor to the congregation and also sometimes conducted services for Trinity when needed. A man who had formerly been a Reformed Church of America pastor agreed to provide interim pulpit supply for the congregation until a man to replace pastor Gray was called.
In January, 1993 a call was given to the Rev. Jay Milojevich to serve as pastor of Trinity Church. At that same meeting a committee was formed to search for a building site within 10 miles of the Roxy Anne Grange Hall where the congregation had met for worship for about 13 years. The congregation made final arrangements to purchase the Mt. Pitt Avenue building in 1994 where the first worship service was held on June 5.
The congregation’s activities at this new location included two worship services each Sunday, Sunday School during the school year, a neighborhood Vacation Bible School taught for several summers, other mid-week meetings, and occasional visits were made to homes on the surrounding streets, inviting neighbors to attend worship services.
In 2004 correspondence started with Rev. Randy Young of Plantation, Florida regarding a counseling center he planned to start in Southern Oregon. This initiated the start of Living Water Counseling Center (LWCC) which was located in the church building, starting in November of 2004 through September 2015.
In November of 2007 pastor Milojevich ended his pastorate of Trinity Church to pursue a position with LWCC. Retired former pastor, Calvin Malcor, agreed to serve as interim pastor during the search for a new pastor. During June of 2009 the Rev. Brian Nicholson of Savannah, Georgia was installed as the present pastor of the congregation.
